Pasha Karami was born in 1979 in Shiraz, an ancient and cultural city of Iran. His tremendous ability of feeling the rhythm convinced everybody about his talent at an early age. At age 14 he got admitted as a disciple of Navid Afghah, the master of Tombak, who had created a new and modern style of playing Tombak. Soon he took the leading place among Afghah’s students and started teaching lessons in several music schools of Shiraz.

In 2002, Pasha won the first place among the young Tombak players at the Shiraz Music Festival. His knowledge of western classical music and skills in playing Tar and Tambour resulted in successful mixes of Tombak and different styles such as Iranian Traditional music, Flamenco, Indian and Fusion.

Pasha’s style of playing Tombak is unique – he masters various complicated rhythms and creates music from them. His Tombak is not just a percussion but a self-sufficient instrument. Pasha’s solos are dynamic, expressive and melodic and have conquered hearts of many listeners.

Pasha has also accompanied a number of nationally celebtrated Iranian musicians such as Hamid Motebassem and Salar Aghili and played with an array of distinguished international musicians such as Hossam Ramzy, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, and Ustad Dolatmand Khal.

Currently Pasha lives in the Netherlands where, he is actively involved in the Iranian as well as multicultural music activities: He regularly performs with the Mezrab Ensemble which represents the traditional Iranian music; Synergy World Rhythm the band, consisting of the professionals of the various percussions; Beduin, where jazz and world music meet each other.
